（五）北歐馴鹿牧人「薩米族」-Talking about Sámi of Northern Europe

今年我參加一個關於世界原住民族的活動，認識許多不同國家的原住民族人，像是北歐的薩米族人、加拿大的原住民、紐西蘭的毛利人、夏威夷的原住民、澳大利亞的原住民等。

This year I am participating in an event about Indigenous peoples in the world. I met with Indigenous people in many different countries, such as the Sami people of Northern Europe, the “Indigenous people of Canada”, the Maori people of New Zealand, “Indigenous of Hawaii”, and “Indigenous people of Australia”, etc.

薩米族來自北歐，橫跨四個國家，挪威、瑞典、芬蘭、俄羅斯，薩米人有自己的國旗與國歌，並且有專屬的教學薩米語言及傳統文化的學校。薩米人最著名的文化是馴鹿放牧。薩米族的國慶日是2月6日，台灣原住民日為8月1日。每年薩米人在二月都會舉辦一週的薩米活動稱「薩米週」，分別在挪威，瑞典，芬蘭和俄羅斯舉辦慶典。

The Sami nationality is from northern Europe and spans four countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. The Sami people have their own national flag and national anthem, and they have exclusive schools that teach Sami language and traditional culture. The Sami’s most famous culture is reindeer herding. The national day of the Sami people is February 6th, and the Taiwan Indigenous Day is August 1st.Every year, Sami people hold a weekly Sami event in February called “Sami Week”, and they hold celebrations in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.

第一次我知道薩米族是來自一部電影「Sami Blood」，電影開始沒多久就讓我覺得很沉重，主流社會對於薩米族人的歧視與偏見，薩米族的小孩被迫在學校接受同化，在主流社會飽受欺負。 我從來沒有想過能親身接觸到薩米族人，今年我認識了來自北歐的薩米族，他們的傳統服飾與歌謠讓我深深著迷。

The first time I knew that the Sami was from the movie “Sami Blood”, it didn’t take long for the movie to make me feel heavy. The discrimination and prejudice of the Sami people in the mainstream society, Sami children were forced to accept in school Assimilation are bullied in mainstream society.I never thought I could meet the Sami people in person. This year I met the Sami people from Northern Europe. Their traditional costumes and ballads fascinated me deeply.

如果你有閱讀其他的原住民文章，你會發現世界上許多原住民族群都面臨被當地政府實施同化政策的情況。很多原住民族群喪失自己的文化、遺忘自己的身分、甚至不會說自己的語言，然而 「歌曲」是讓許多原住民族找回自己身分的一個方式，像是澳大利亞的原住民、薩米人。

If you read other Indigenous articles, you will find that many Indigenous people in the world are facing assimilation policies by local governments. Many Indigenous peoples have lost their culture, forgotten their identity, and can’t even speak their own language. However, “songs” is a way for many Indigenous people to find their identity, such as Australian Indigenous , Sami Indigenous .

在挪威，擁有專屬薩米族的學校，教學薩米語言和馴鹿技巧以及薩米傳統文化，且學校設立在薩米社區，所以周邊環境加上學校教學，形成很好的薩米文化環境。薩米高中和馴鹿飼養學校的校長在受訪ITA時說：「如果你不懂薩米文化，在這裡，你也會有環境、氣候、天氣及人來協助你，這是很自然傳承知識的一個地區」。我認為這個很值得台灣效仿。

In Norway, there is an exclusive school for Sami, teaching Sami language and reindeer skills and traditional Sami culture, and the school is established in the Sami community, so the surrounding environment plus school teaching forms a good Sami cultural environment. The principals of Sami High School and Reindeer Breeding School said in an interview with ITA: “If you do n’t understand Sami culture, here you will also have the environment, climate, weather and people to assist you.
